President message

I sincerely thank each one of you for the trust and confidence you have bestowed upon me by electing me unopposed.

Our basic aim is to serve the community and doctors fraternity and also uplift the image of our medical profession. We will not only try to educate the public about their rights as patients but also try to sensitize them about their duties towards the medical professionals and the need to respect their doctors.

Friends as all of you know our IMA is the largest NGO in the World. We have more than 3 lakh members from all over India. We have 1,850 branches in every nook and corner of India. We work in 3-tier system i.e. local level, state level and national level. We are the primary health care workers of society. Government and BMC caters to health care of only 30% of population, whereas private practitioners take care of 70% of population.

IMA Maharashtra State’s greatest achievement was when we fought successfully the Maharashtra Medical Council elections as a team. We could push the Government to pass Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institution Act 2010 and we were also active in drafting a Maharashtra specific Clinical Establishment Act and Undue Benefits in Healthcare Services Act.

We are always on the forefront in implementing the National Health Programmes whether it is Pulse Polio, MR Vaccine, RNTCP, Anaemia Free India, Save The Girl Child, Aao Gaon Chalein, ORS and Zinc to control diarrhea, for eradication of HIV & AIDS, Hypertension, Diabetes, Heart diseases and Blindness.

In IMA apart from conducting continuous Medical Education Programme (CME) through our faculties like CGP and AMS, we also implement project like Social Security Scheme, at state level and national level, where members beloved ones get death insurance benefit cover without much paper work. In Professional Protection Scheme, our legal team take the charge to tackle the medico legal complaints and help the doctor legally, financially and emotionally. In Aao Gaon Chalen Project wherein we not only take care of the health of the villagers, but we also look into matters of problem of drinking water and sanitation.

For the last few months we were opposing the draconian sections of National Medical Commission Bill. It is anti poor, anti federal and anti democratic.

In the jurisdiction of IMA Maharashtra State Branch there are 50 Medical colleges. I intend to expand the Medical Student’s Network as it is the future strength of IMA. We have started a Medical Students App which will help interaction between IMA Maharashtra State and students of Medical colleges all over Maharashtra State. Our blood donation drive is in full swing. We collect hundreds of bottles and donate it to charitable & public hospitals. I intend to increase the number of blood donation camps in more areas. Our Hospital Board of India is also doing very good work in getting primary accreditation NABH for hospitals and other hospital related problems like Fire NOC, Bio Medical Waste etc.

I am very fortunate to have a very experienced team of senior and young enthusiastic office bearers who I know will stand solidly behind the branch & a team of senior members who will always be there to guide the branch to greater heights.
